Feeling a sense of nervousness about your initial appointment is completely normal. Many clients feel this way. Often at the end of the first session clients report how at ease they felt during the session. Rest assured, I am very well versed in helping clients feel at ease by providing a warm and welcoming space for you. ยท
At your first couples session you and your partner explain the difficulties you are each experiencing. It is my role to make sure you both have time to speak and be heard by your partner. By the end of the first session it is hoped the three of us can agree on common goals you would both like to achieve.
Counselling is not covered under the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). To use a MHCP you will need to organise an appointment with a psychologist. If you're seeking a fully subsidised service, you will need to find a psychologist who offers bulk billing. However, many psychologists charge a gap fee.
For context, the Australian Psychological Society currently (2025) recommends a fee of approximately $311 per session. You will receive a Medicare rebate of $96.65. This means there will be an out-of-pocket expense of $214.35. Please reach out if you have any further questions.
